Looking for something for your kids to do while you attend the RTA? Saint Stephen's offers a wide range of summer camps for children of all ages. More information regarding pricing and registration will be coming soon but here is a list of the camps that are being offered the week of the RTA.
June 26-30 Morning Camps
Track & Field (Rising grades K – 6): The triggers that start kids running and will keep them running are having fun, being with friends, setting and accomplishing simple goals, enjoying success and having ownership of their running. For SSES head track Coach A.J. Brown, it is helping children discover what motivates them and applying those principles to running.
Mad Science: Sciencepalooza! (Rising grades K - 6): A mixed bag of fun science. On our Nature days, you will learn how birds and beasts catch their prey and then explore survival skills, discover what owls eat by dissecting an owl pellet, and then build a bird feeder to take home. In our Shutterbugs session explore the use of light and make a cool kaleidoscope. Explore how cameras work, catch a shadow picture and make your own movie. Then experiment with some cool chemistry making bath fizzies and discover the power of clean by testing how detergents work with your favorite stains.
Garden Art (Rising grades 1 – 6): Art instructor Kelly Wood will teach students how to make garden themed projects, one per day. Projects will include a ceramic wind chime, a mosaic stepping stone, a wall planter, and two others. Materials fee included.
Dance, Dance, Dance (Rising grades 2 – 5): Along with some fun this camp offers a combination class of hip–hop, Broadway jazz, lyrical, and tap fundamentals in order to hone the student’s basic skills. Dance is also recognized as great for fitness, discipline, and body and mind development. Dance program instructor Melissa Taormina has developed a unique program specifically designed to maximize the cognitive as well as the physical benefits of dancing.
Photography (Rising grades 4 – 8): Students step behind the lens for a fun and active exploration of photography. Projects include darkroom photograms, nature walks, Photoshop, Instagram, portraiture, and much more.
Cyber Crimes Investigation/Cyber Security (Rising grades 5 – 12): After years on the force, you’ve finally made it to the Cyber Unit. Here the web’s worst cyber offenders and brought to justice! It’s your job to follow the clues and piece together what happened. Today is your first day of training, and there is much to learn. But your instructor is here to help you every step of the way. You will be exposed to the latest Cyber security concepts and you will learn techniques to not only identify potential cyber threats but how to defend yourself against them! Learn how to backup your data, develop a password strategy, how to identify potential cyber threats, and defend against them! Students must purchase a domain name and one month minimum webhosting.

Gymnastics & Tumbling (Rising grades K – 6): South Florida Gymnastics brings its 40- year expertise to Saint Stephen’s! Coach Kevin is USTA certified in tumbling and trampoline, USAG safety certified and trained in CPR and first aid. He will lead instruction for all levels in tumbling, balance, acro skills and more. He has coached five national champions and works to build individual strengths.
Chess & Board Games (Rising grades 1 – 8): International Chess Master Jim Skeels brings his mastery to students wanting to hone their chess and strategic skills through chess, Bughouse Chess and board game play. Beginners are welcome. “Mr. Jim” makes chess even more fun by adding a “make your own chess piece” project and sprinkling in challenge contest prizes. Board game play will also focus on strategy and goal setting.
Guitar Strumming (Rising grades 1 – 12): For those who want to play simple folk/ pop style guitar, learn basic chords, progressions and explore how they work together in songs. Some basic knowledge of guitar is helpful, but not required. Students must have a playable acoustic guitar. Music reading is not required. Suzuki trained Joseph Shields instructs.
Rug making (Rising grades 2 – 7): Renowned instructor Karen Hathaway teaches several rug making techniques. We will make a coiled rag rug and a braided rag rug.
Star Light, Star Bright (Rising grades 3 – 5): Accomplished drama instructor Preston Boyd encourages participants to use their own creativity to interpret fairy tales, legends, and myths as they apply to the medium of storytelling in a theatrical context. Students learn the basics of articulation, inflection, and projection as they become increasingly comfortable with the notion of Entertainment. Materials, including stories and song themes, supplied by instructor.
Cooking Around the World (Rising grades 4 – 8): Come along for a culinary adventure to different parts of the world with Mary Kasher - a Ph.D. from Yale, she has studied cooking in France, and Belgium; and currently conducts cooking demonstrations as a cooking consultant for DeMarle at home. Young chefs receive hands on instruction and create delicious foods from around the globe! Students are introduced to culinary fundamentals and kitchen safety while expanding their palates and reinforcing academic and social skills, as well as building their kitchen confidence. Each Junior Chef Culinary Arts Camper needs to bring: Good quality chef’s knife, Cut-resistant glove, rubber spatulas, peeler, whisk, and closed toes shoes. Recipes / explorations will be NEW this summer, so suitable for repeat chefs.
Stop-Motion Animation (Rising grades 5 – 9): You will learn about the history and techniques of animation and then develop a story concept, create a storyboard, build and rig characters for a short animation that you will create, upload and share with the world! Using the stop motion kit, iPad, and “Stop Motion Studio” app you will bring your ideas to life, Learn about “persistence of vision” and why it’s vital to animation. Students must bring an iPad to class.
